A flurry of last minute packing (as usual),
A whole lot of laughter,
A bunch of improvisations and compromises,
A quick hug, And she’s gone.

Even though the house is a mess (refer line 1 and 3 above), it never felt so empty to me before. Suddenly it’s so quiet… so lifeless… so… boring.

All good things must come to an end, and we’ve already been given the bonus of 2 extra years together, more than most secondary school friends ever have. But in a way, that makes saying goodbye so much harder.

Tried to act like everything was fine, especially when she kept saying ‘I’m going to miss you’. Gave reassurances like ‘We’ll still see each other in Penang, in church, and talk on the phone etc.’ (at least until I leave for Ireland, which will be another emo session to resolve later… XD) but in truth, I knew I was going to miss her too… more than she’ll ever know.

Yes, it’s not goodbye forever. In fact, it’s so far from it (Yes, madam, I’m going to be your kids’ favourite aunt and you’ll be mine). But still… =(

I know you’ll be reading this, and I know you’re sad too. But I guess it’s time to keep the memories, move on, and discover new stories to share with each other every so often. I love you loads and loads and you’ve been a precious part of my life for the past few years, and you’ll always be for all the years to come.

So here’s a little collection of memories as room mates I can come up with off the top of my head (hence it’s not in chronological order), just to make you laugh (and cry, because I’m crying too… XD). Other people reading this post, you can laugh too. Heh.

For my -little girl voice- bestest friend in the whole wide world…

I remember:

  • how on the first day away from home, at that little house in SS15, I kept running to the toilet to cry, thinking that you’d actually believe I had such a tiny bladder when you actually knew what I was doing all along.
  • how you dragged me along exploring SS15 the whole day, effectively keeping me from being emo.
  • how tired I was that first time, because you walk amazingly fast, and I couldn’t keep up with you…
  • how you managed to train me to walk just as fast…
  • and how in exchange, I managed to increase your eating speed to match mine. (you’ve done well, young padawan.)
  • how we always go to Subway after Campus Revo on Monday just to have the sub of the day.
  • how the two of us managed to live in the tiniest room of the house, which was so strategically placed, we could hear the kitchen activities, the washing machine activities, the toilet activities and the living room activities oh so clearly.
  • the said first room away from home:

Our 'married' beds with the closet door that can't open fully

    The only available walking space

  •  Mr Pentopus. ‘Nuff said.

    Mr Pentopus

    Mr Pentopus

  • how it takes special training and experience to wake you up early.
  • how you have become habituated to all the annoying alarm sounds you ever set.
  • how we can are so lame and silly with each other the way only best friends can.
  • how we keep telling each other to not procrastinate, but end up doing so anyway.
  • how it also takes special training and experience to get you to bathe first.
  • how our poor landlord, who just had a heart bypass, rearranged the whole living room for us to have more study space, only to be told that we were leaving for Intec in a couple of weeks time.
  • how we sat on the bed and prayed about our JPA results before checking them, and how you exclaimed “FERN! I GOT IMU!” and clicked the ‘ACCEPT’ button immediately.
  • how I kept yelling over the phone that you got straight A+ for SPM, and you kept yelling back “NO!!” and I kept yelling in reply, “YES!!” “NOOO!!” “YEESSSSS!” “NOOOOOOOOO!!!” “YEEESSSSSSSSS!”
  • how we stayed up all night cramming for exams, both so stressed out and both stressing each other out.
  • how a normal conversation will lead on into hours of talking and telling each other things that we’ve never told anyone else before.
  • how we watched episodes of CSI NY every week, and how you kept speculating who was the real murderer, and I didn’t want to tell you even if I watched it before.
  • how we perfected the art of boiling an egg using just a bowl, a plate and an electric kettle.
  • how we force fed ourselves cucumber, lettuce and tomatoes for dinner because we bought too much.
  • how you’ll always hog my bed and my Sunny-Yellow pillow just because ‘What’s mine is yours.’
  • how we’ll wait for each other after college and tell each other animatedly what happened in class that day.
  • how I’m supposed to tell you when I get my first boyfriend (ban ban tan lah. -hokkien for ‘slowly wait lah’) and to never hold the wedding unless you can make it there (and vice versa, duh).
  • how I have a mental list of all things I need to warn your future hubby about about you.
  • how you look forward to meeting little Fern-lets. XP
  • how being best friends gives us the authority to do and say all kinds of crazy things and act in all kinds of crazy ways, which we would never do in front of other people.

Whoosh. I can go on for a much longer time, but this will have to do for now. I love you, bum-bum! Will talk to you soon, but for now I have to go clean up the mess you made (a.k.a. Tornado Tricia). I can’t wait til Campus Camp, where we’ll wake up extra early (provided you can… XD), sit at the beach and watch the sunrise together.

You're right. For two best friends, we don't actually have many pictures together, hence, I give you the picture which comes up when I click 'See friendship' on FB! =D

You’re right! The first part is so emo, I hampir-hampir cried okay! If I had read it any slower and read that part too many times over, sure cry wan but no, right after that came that list, that hilarious list! You made me chuckle all the way down the list, all by myself in my room, and made me feel all fuzzy, warm, happy, bouncy and well, all the other reasons why I’m so glad God gave me friend like you! I’m sure that you know the very expression I have on my face now and what I would do to you if you were right here with me. Hahaha. You know me inside out just the same as I know you. My sweet, at times sappy, crazy best friend, am I glad I got to know you! Sure had a real fun time living with you. That 2 years sure was great but both you and I know that we’re only at the beginning and it is definitely not the end. Already looking forward to sitting there at the beach and enjoying the sunrise and the waves with you. :)

Just got to know that this blog exists. o.o I’m late and slow as usual lol~

Like dear Esther said, this is really sweet :3 It’s really great when you have an awesome friend whom you can spend time doing all sorts of stuff together and enjoy each other’s company, share thoughts and feelings, stuff like that ;)

I actually have lots to say but nah, the messages are all jumbled up due to some unknown error in brain. Heh <.< Anyway, cheers to great friendship, and all the best to you guys! ^^
